May 24-29

Back again for May 24-28:

May 24 Cape May to Atlantic City in very very shallow Intracoastal.  Despite best efforts 5 grounding and 25 mph wind.  Once 1.5 hours but got off with rising tide.  Also waiting Drawbridges and did 50 very stressful miles.  Stayed at Golden Nugget Casino Marina former Trump.

May 25 to Manasquan.  Tried open Atlantic but stuck nose out and waves too big.  So Intracoastal again 65 miles and very shallow but perfect tides and navigation and no grounding.  Great little town.

May 26 no more Intracoastal so only option open Atlantic 35 miles to Sandy Hook cover but perfect weather and tides and made it all the way on to Manhattan World Trade Center marina going by Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

May 26 and 27 nights in marina.  Saw Jan, Scott, Erica and Carson and some of Paul's family.  Went to Erica's VP boss apartment Erica staying at very cool in Greenich Village.  Next day went to Intrepid Aircraft Carrier WW II museum and lots of planes.  A T38 sign said used by Navy Test Pilot School pilots and by NASA for astronaut pilot training.  Also went on Navy active duty US New York modern stealth ship. Monday night dinner Paul's family at 100 year old Italian restaurant Money's.  Unreal good and close to Erica's in Village.  Saw WTC 911 Memorial earlier.

May 28 640AM left and went to Marlboro up the Hudson past West Point.  Beautiful bluffs in Erie low clouds.  Ran starboard tank some more and started stuttering and switched to port but still losing most power in fast river in rain.  Limped into marina and sweettalked mechanic into changing filters and draining gunk and removing Dads microbe filter.  Bled air and all good.  Climbed huge hill on road to town and great little restaurant.  Came back in downpour and dried out on boat.  Train track right next to us and great trains and barges all night.  Lot of small logs hitting boat.

Today May 29 running 85 miles north on Hudson.  Mid 50s early yo later high 60s.  Caught tide 50 m north and finally got outgoing tide/current against us.  Tide all way to Albany and trying to make lock at Troy.  Passed regular ocean ship below Albany.

Can't get pictures to save and no I'D on thumbnails so hard:

May 13-23

Hello:

This post is re May 13-18.  Did not realize had been so long as has been very busy on the water.

May 13 in Cape Fear area in big marsh bay's and narrow cuts and against tide.  Swansboro in heavy wind.  Heard artillery from Camp Lejune.

May 14 arrived in Bellhaven.  Cruised Pamlico Sound, He use River and Beufort Inlet.

May 15 left Bellhaven and 10 miles north water pump impeller shaft snapped and we overheated.  Towed back to Bellhaven.  Two nights very small town great marina owners.  Got new pump and strainer installed.

May 17 crossed Albermale Sound very big water.  Arrived Elizabeth City NC.  Potato Festival.

May 18 Dismal Swamp route to Norfolk.  Lunch at Hardees near 2nd lock.  Entered Norfolk by NAVY ships and across to Hampton on n side.

May 19 to Reedville.  Hitched ride to Crazy Crab Restarant.  The big Menhaden fleet.

May 20 To Patuxent NAS and watched David fly in from mission.  Could not do low flyby due to helicopters but still great and saw him go by on landing approach.  See blue sky photo and zoom.  Toured NAS with David and super cool in hanger and his T38 and F18 and waited out rain under F18.  Great dinner with David in Solomons.  Saw his trailer and really enjoyec catching up with him.

May 21 had to return to Solomon's on Cheasapeak Bay 1.5 days due to waves.  Then out decent waves.

May 22 left Deals and arrived Delaware City.  Went through C and D Canal at top of Chase Bay.

May 23 waiting to run down notoriously bad Delaware Bay and local marina owner had us scared crazy and looked at all kinds of forecasts.  Forecast improved and looked like we could get to S side of Bay but not bad and went to preferred Cape May on n side.  Rough 3-4 footers but managed.  Drinks for sure CDA.

May 11-12

Hello:

Sat May 11 We went 93 miles in 10.5 hours with great currents behind us so we were surfing along.  WENT into swamp areas with tree lined channel but trees in water.  Ended up at a slightly better than Hobbies Fish Camp (was on Tem Tom) marina in the swamp area with trailer camp and boats place called Bucksport Marina and Restaurant.  But they had a flood from Florence and restaurant no more but had snacks and bar.  Big opening night of music under the shelter/bar open air pole building.  Very LOUD band till 1100PM just outside boat.  Don't look for town of Bucksport on map as maybe only few houses and the new Dollar General they are very happy about.  We were told not good idea for us to walk the swamp road over there at dusk.

Today May 12 going about 60 miles only to Southport likely as due to storms likely so short day probably.  Went behind Myrtle Beach and now north going along behind sand dunes and inlets.  We will end up about 20 miles south of Topsail Island.  Couple interesting swing bridges on way and a lot of damaged places from floods from Florence.
